The disappearance of K2 Airways' Boeing 737 cargo plane off the coast of Pakistan has led to a new wave of information being released by officials. The plane, which was on a cargo flight bound for Karachi, Pakistan, vanished around 9:21 p.m. local time on Tuesday evening while en route from Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates.
The search for the missing crew members, identified as Capt. Muhammad Rizwan Idris, First Officer Faisal Jatoi, flight engineers Muhammad Hamid and Muhammad Arif Siddiqui, and aircraft loader Muhammad Taufiq Khan, continued into Thursday. Some wreckage was recovered on Wednesday, approximately 53 miles south of Ormara.
The crew members' families have expressed concern and are waiting for news. Ghulam Nabi Bahrani, the father-in-law of co-pilot Faisal Jatoi, reported that the family had regular contact with Jatoi while he was in Sharjah. Jatoi had called his wife shortly before departing the UAE on Tuesday, Bahrani added.
The military and civilian teams have deployed planes and ships to search for the missing crew. Radar data showed the aircraft rapidly descending before it dropped off radar. The aircraft, a 27-year-old Boeing 737-400 freighter, was reportedly experiencing navigation system problems shortly before contact was lost roughly 155 nautical miles west of Karachi.
Military assets have been deployed to aid the search, including the PNS Zulfiqar, a frigate of Pakistan's navy, and aircraft from the Pakistan air force. The airline, which was established in 2018, has expressed its commitment to finding the missing crew members and has asked the public to pray for their safety.
