A suspect was arrested in Oklahoma City after allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail at a man in a wheelchair near police headquarters, authorities said.
The incident occurred on July 2 at around 8 a.m. when surveillance footage showed a man in a wheelchair crossing a street diagonally outside the headquarters. Moments later, another man identified by police crossed the street, turned around, and approached the victim.
The suspect, 38-year-old Alexander Emery, appeared to light something before allegedly hurling the incendiary device at the man in the wheelchair. The victim was momentarily surrounded by flames before Emery allegedly pushed the wheelchair.
After being pushed back into the flames, the victim fell backwards out of his chair and was once again engulfed in the flames. A passing vehicle stopped, and two people got out, while a nearby police detective and a bystander pulled the victim from the fire.
Another police officer detained Emery, who faces multiple felony charges, including assault with intent to kill and assault and battery with a deadly weapon, according to the Oklahoma City Police Department.
The victim suffered minor injuries, was treated at a hospital, and is expected to recover. A motive for the incident has not been disclosed.
