Shampoo Recall in Canada and U.S. Due to Bacterial Infection Risk

Shampoo Recall in Canada and U.S. Due to Bacterial Infection Risk

A popular shampoo has been recalled in Canada and the United States following the discovery of Pluralibacter gergoviae bacteria in select lots of the product. The recall covers the Oribe Serene Scalp Densifying Shampoo, a brand known for its high-end formulations. Consumers are advised to discontinue use of any affected bottles immediately. Retailers and salons have been instructed to remove the recalled items from shelves and return them for safe disposal.

The bacteria identified poses minimal risk to healthy individuals but could potentially cause infections in people with weakened immune systems. The recall is voluntary and focuses on specific production batches rather than the entire product line. The affected bottles are limited to particular lot numbers and UPC codes.

Consumers can identify the recalled bottles by checking the UPC code 840035231242 on 8.5‑ounce (about 250 ml) bottles with the identifier YR010556. The larger 33.8‑ounce (about 1,000 ml) bottles carry UPC code 840035231273 and may have either YR010566 or YR010576 on the bottom. Many retailers, including major beauty retailers and online marketplaces, offer the smaller bottles for approximately $67.

If you possess an affected bottle, stop using it immediately and contact the manufacturer for guidance. Retailers are encouraged to remove the recalled lots from inventory and return them for secure disposal.

Consumers experiencing adverse reactions or seeking a replacement can call 1-800-333-2442 for assistance. The company will provide further instructions and support for affected customers.

No official recall notice has yet been released by the national health authority. The manufacturer is collaborating with federal regulators to pull the affected lots from distribution. An investigation into the full scope of the issue remains underway.

In related news, a major retailer has recalled shampoo and conditioner sold in two provinces due to elevated microbial levels. Another retailer has pulled cheese products over a Listeria contamination risk, while the same chain has also recalled a popular milk brand for potential food safety concerns.

Health officials continue to monitor the situation, and additional guidance is expected as the investigation progresses. Consumers are urged to remain vigilant and follow the recall instructions to ensure safety.
