A 30-year-old man has been charged with multiple sexual assaults that allegedly occurred on public transit in downtown Toronto last week.
Police responded to a report of a sexual assault shortly before 1 p.m. on Thursday, indicating that the alleged attacks took place between 8 a.m. and noon while the victims were traveling on the city’s transit system.
Authorities have not disclosed which routes or whether the incidents occurred on buses, streetcars or subways, but they confirmed that all victims were adult women who did not know the suspect and suffered no physical injuries.
The suspect is accused of obstructing officers during the investigation. He was arrested and faces five counts of sexual assault and one count of obstructing a peace officer.
The man, identified as Ashraful Alam, is described as 5‑foot‑7 to 5‑foot‑10, medium build, with black shaggy hair and a beard, wearing a dark long‑sleeved shirt, beige shorts and dark sandals at the time of his arrest.
A bail hearing is scheduled for Friday. Police have released his image and are urging anyone with information or additional victims to contact law enforcement.
