A one-year-old girl named Violet Paul has made a remarkable visual breakthrough following early eye surgery. She was born without irises and with dangerously high eye pressure, conditions linked to a rare genetic mutation. At birth, her corneas were clouded, leaving her effectively blind.

The mutation in the FOXC1 gene leads to aniridia and congenital glaucoma, impairing normal eye development. Without irises, Violet’s pupils could not regulate light, causing extreme sensitivity and further vision loss. The combination of these factors resulted in limited light perception from infancy.
