A 25-year-old man from Texas is facing felony charges after allegedly purchasing dozens of cattle with bad checks.
According to authorities, Payton Dean Carroll is accused of buying 77 head of cattle from a local marketing company. The alleged theft totals $159,604.03.
The Leon County Sheriff's Department launched an investigation on July 17, following a report of the alleged crime. The Criminal Investigations Division worked closely with local law enforcement agencies and the Texas & Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association to gather evidence.
Carroll is from the Barry area in Texas. His involvement in the case has been confirmed by the Leon County Sheriff's Department.
