Lorde Halts Concert Amid Fan Medical Emergency

Lorde Halts Concert Amid Fan Medical Emergency

Lorde's headlining performance at Lollapalooza was halted temporarily after multiple fans reportedly lost consciousness in the crowd due to the scorching heatwave in Chicago.

The temperatures soared to around 90F (32C), prompting several medical emergencies among concertgoers packed near the front of the stage. Witnesses said Lorde repeatedly called for assistance after spotting people in distress in the audience, temporarily bringing the show to a standstill while help made its way through the crowd.

The singer acknowledged the conditions as she took to the stage, telling the audience: "You look hot from up here." Once those requiring medical attention had been helped, Lorde resumed the performance, treating fans to a setlist packed with some of her biggest hits, including Royals, Green Light, Supercut and Ribs.

During the set, Lorde also delighted the crowd with a surprise appearance from fellow pop star Charli XCX, who joined her on stage for a performance of their fan-favourite collaboration Girl, So Confusing. The set marked a full-circle moment for Lorde, who had previously been forced to cut short her 2017 performance at Lollapalooza due to torrential rain.

Reflecting on finally getting to complete the milestone, Lorde told the crowd: "Let's complete the circle from 2017 to 2014 to right now." Lorde has been touring in support of her fourth studio album, Virgin, which was released last summer.

The incident comes amid growing concerns about extreme weather at outdoor music festivals, with organisers increasingly forced to contend with both dangerous heat and severe storms during the busy summer season.
