A man discovered slain in a Stoney Creek culvert on Wednesday morning had recently immigrated to Canada.
Hamilton Police said a passerby found the victim, identified as 29-year-old Taranpreet Singh Sidhu, partly submerged in a sewage culvert near the north end of Fruitland Road around 8:15 a.m.
He was pronounced dead at the scene. Investigators have determined his death to be a homicide.
Police said they are confident Sidhu was not killed at the location where his body was found. The circumstances surrounding his death remain under active investigation.
Detectives are working with Peel Regional Police, who have provided investigative resources to support the Hamilton Police homicide unit.
An extensive video canvas has been conducted in the area where Sidhu was located. Investigators continue to review surveillance and digital evidence and interview witnesses to establish his movements before his death.
Police have not released information about the vehicle believed to have been used to transport the victim. The cause of death has also not been disclosed as the investigation continues.
Sidhu immigrated to Canada from India in 2022. He had lived in Brampton and Halifax, working as a truck driver since his arrival.
Investigators are asking anyone who had contact with Sidhu or has information about his final movements to come forward.
Police are particularly interested in surveillance, dash camera, or doorbell footage that could assist the investigation. Tips can be submitted directly to the homicide unit or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
