The Baltimore Police Department is searching for a group of suspects accused of beating up an elderly man and attempting to rob him outside a gas station in the city's Northern District.
According to surveillance video, the group of six suspects wearing hooded sweatshirts ran up to the man outside a 7-Eleven on Liberty Heights Avenue, proceeded to attack him, and displayed weapons.
The attack appears to have been violent and prolonged, with the suspects knocking the man to the ground several times and throwing various objects at him.
At one point in the video, it appears that one of the suspects points what looks like an assault rifle at the victim, while another suspect points a sword at him.
The incident occurred just before 4 a.m. on July 7, and it follows an announcement from the city's mayor about a drop in violent crime in Baltimore.
According to the announcement, the city has seen 50 homicides so far this year, which represents the fewest homicides ever recorded in Baltimore through the first six months of a calendar year.
Compared to this date last year, Baltimore has seen a 23.1% decrease in homicides and a 2.5% decrease in non-fatal shootings.
The victim sustained minor bruising from the assault, according to police, and the investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Police have not confirmed if the suspects were involved in other related crimes in the city.
