A Louisiana man has been charged with murder after a fatal confrontation with law enforcement officials during a warrant service operation. The incident, which occurred on July 13, resulted in the death of a deputy U.S. marshal who was responding to a prior sexual battery charge against the suspect.
Clarence A. Frazier Jr., 48, of Alexandria, allegedly barricaded himself inside his home and opened fire on officers attempting to serve an arrest warrant. The confrontation unfolded as a joint operation involving multiple law enforcement agencies. Frazier faces federal charges carrying a potential life imprisonment sentence or the death penalty if convicted.
The deceased deputy, identified as Drew Hanson, was described as a devoted family member. Authorities emphasized that Hanson was fulfilling his duty at the time of the shooting. “Tragically, the alleged actions of the defendant have claimed the life of a dedicated law enforcement officer,” an official said. “The suspect is now in custody and will face full legal accountability.”
Law enforcement officials reported that officers announced their presence before forcing entry into Frazier’s residence. Frazier allegedly retreated into a bedroom and engaged in gunfire, striking Hanson. After a standoff, Frazier was taken into custody. Hanson succumbed to his injuries following the exchange.
Earlier records indicate Frazier had failed to appear in court for trial on a charge related to sexual battery of a person with infirmities. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, with charges formally filed Tuesday.
