A 19‑year‑old man was arrested after allegedly assaulting a woman while she exercised along White Oak Bayou in the Houston area. The incident took place around 6:30 p.m. on Monday, according to statements released by local authorities.
The woman reported that she fought back, gouging the attacker’s eyes and pulling out strands of his hair before escaping. She later located deputy constables and was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Deputies used a drone to survey the bayou, discovering claw marks on the mud and grass that indicated a violent encounter. Fresh bicycle tracks led investigators to a nearby residential street.
Surveillance footage from a home on that street captured a man on a bicycle who matched the description of the suspect. The video also showed the man approaching another woman, who later informed investigators that he had whistled at her as she stepped outside.
After the woman’s husband appeared, the suspect fled the scene. Authorities pursued him, resulting in a brief chase and a struggle that ended with his arrest.
During the arrest, police recovered a cell phone belonging to the woman who had been attacked at the bayou. The suspect was first charged with evading arrest, followed by two counts of aggravated sexual assault.
Officials emphasized the importance of justice for the victim and praised the efforts of the deputies who responded to the incident.
