Three people are facing multiple charges after York Regional Police found a loaded firearm and drugs during a traffic stop in Markham on Saturday.
Officers were patrolling the area of 14th Avenue and Beckenridge Drive when they pulled over a vehicle. While speaking with the driver, they determined that cannabis was being transported in contravention of the Cannabis Control Act.
A search of the vehicle and its three occupants revealed a loaded firearm, illicit cannabis, drugs believed to be oxycodone and cocaine, and cash. The trio was taken into custody.
A follow-up search of a residence on Sunday led to the discovery of additional drugs, including cannabis and substances believed to be psilocybin and ketamine.
Seliyan Surenthiran, 27, of Toronto, faces charges including unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime, and several drug offences. Police said he was bound by firearms prohibition orders from unrelated incidents.
Seyon Surenthiran, 31, and Vijikaran Sivanesan, 40, both of Toronto, also face multiple drug charges.
In a separate case, York Regional Police are seeking a Toronto man wanted for allegedly assaulting a 15-year-old girl in Vaughan on Sunday. The victim called police to an abandoned building near Jane Street and Highway 7 after breaking free from her attacker.
The teen told officers she had been assaulted with a weapon and choked before escaping. The suspect had fled before police arrived.
Avi Jackson-Bungiena, 20, of Toronto, is wanted for assault, assault with a weapon, and breach of probation. He is described as six-foot-one, 135 pounds, with brown eyes and short brown hair, last seen in a black T-shirt, black shorts, and white running shoes.
Police urged the suspect to seek legal advice and turn himself in.
A man has been charged and a second person is being sought in connection with a kidnapping in Markham. The victim was reported missing last Tuesday from his business near Denison Street and Woodbine Avenue.
Investigators located the victim safely two days later and charged one suspect. Haidong Zhou, 39, of Toronto, faces charges of kidnapping with a firearm and forcible confinement.
Police are also seeking Jianwei "John" Fan, 44, of Toronto, who is wanted for conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.
In Hamilton, a man is facing drug and firearm charges following a stolen vehicle investigation in Stoney Creek. Officers responded to a report of a stolen pickup truck and located a suspect allegedly entering another vehicle and driving away.
The suspect was arrested without incident at a gas station. A search of the vehicle yielded a loaded handgun, about 40 grams of suspected fentanyl, and other items linked to drug trafficking.
Stephen Maisonville, 37, of Hamilton, has been charged with possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, theft of a motor vehicle, possession of fentanyl for trafficking, and failure to comply with a sentencing order.
