The story of Blake Walker's stolen laptop has come full circle after a series of unexpected twists and turns. The 15-year-old's computer had been sold on eBay, but instead of receiving it, he was left with a trail of confusion and misinformation.
When Blake contacted eBay, he was informed that he likely fell victim to a scam. It was suggested that fraudsters may have obtained his email address when he sent a video of the laptop before it was posted. Determined to recover his computer, Blake and his mum decided to take matters into their own hands.
They visited the address listed on the eBay sale, only to find that it was a restaurant. Blake's mum even prepared an empty parcel to pose as a delivery driver, but they were eventually allowed to enter the premises. Inside, Blake confronted the individuals who claimed innocence, but eventually admitted to receiving and storing items at the restaurant.
After producing a delivery confirmation photograph, the group eventually returned Blake's laptop. However, the man who handed over the computer insisted he had nothing to do with the fake email. A closer look at his phone suggested that parcels received at the address were later shipped to Nigeria.
Blake and his mum drove home with the laptop in hand, feeling surprised and relieved by the unexpected turn of events. After recovering the computer, they made an audio recording of the meeting and contacted Essex Police again to complete an online crime report.
Officers said they would visit to take a statement and collect the recording, but Blake and his family have not heard anything since. An eBay spokesperson has since suspended the buyer's account, apologizing for the experience and encouraging users to communicate only through eBay messages and to verify payment before shipping items.
