A 46-year-old man has been accused of murdering a 24-year-old woman after breaking into her home in Hayes while she slept with her husband and infant child.
The defendant, Daniel Sean James, is alleged to have kicked open the door of the victim’s residence at around 7.51am and entered the bedroom where the family was asleep.
The victim’s husband woke to his wife’s scream and saw a figure leaving the room, according to court proceedings.
Two minutes later, James allegedly exited the property by jumping from a window in the kitchen-living area, breaking both ankles in the process.
He attempted to flee but collapsed roughly 10 metres from the scene. Police arrived approximately 24 minutes after the first reported sighting of the suspect.
The victim, Kirandeep Kaur, suffered a stab wound to the chest and was pronounced dead at 8.26am.
The court heard that both the victim and her husband were strangers to the defendant. James was treated in hospital before being taken into custody.
He has been charged with murder, attempted murder, and possession of a blade.
Appearing by videolink from prison, James confirmed his identity during a hearing at the Old Bailey. He was remanded into custody.
A plea hearing was scheduled for October 1, with a provisional three-week trial set to begin on April 5 next year.
