A man has been banned from entering an entire London borough thanks to his 'antisocial behaviour'. Police now have the power to arrest him without a warrant if he ever tries to re-enter any part of Croydon, south London.
Croydon Council secured an injunction against the man after he 'caused misery for local businesses and residents', particularly in West Croydon. The exact nature of his antisocial behaviour remains unclear.
The council secured the injunction off the back of several interventions by its Town Centre Taskforce, a group made up of statutory, community, and voluntary sector organisations. This taskforce, brought together by the Executive Mayor of Croydon, runs clean-up hotspots and tackles antisocial behaviour across the borough.
The borough has also seen a reduction in antisocial behaviour thanks to a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) introduced in the town centre in 2022. The order has been extended for three years, contributing to a 24% decrease in antisocial behaviour and receiving widespread support from businesses and residents.
The Executive Mayor of Croydon has stated that the borough will not tolerate antisocial behaviour, and the injunction sends a clear message that perpetrators are not welcome in Croydon. The mayor has vowed to continue taking firm action against those whose behaviour causes distress and disruption to residents and businesses.
