Driver Faces Charges After Leading Police on 150-Mile Pursuit in

The driver, who is registered blind, admitted to driving 150 miles on the motorway without a valid license or insurance, while over the drink-drive limit.

Pulled over by police, the driver revealed that he had been navigating the motorway by following the lights of HGVs, a "miraculous" feat that prevented any serious injury or damage.

The driver, who appeared in court, also admitted to taking his partner's car without her consent and driving while under the influence of wine.

He was also over the drink-drive limit as he made the journey towards Cumbria. A court heard it was "miraculous" that nobody was killed or seriously injured during the two-hour motorway drive. A breath test showed that the driver had 46mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath, exceeding the legal limit of 35mcg.

Prosecutors described the driver's actions as "prolonged and persistent" and a "decision to ignore the rules of the road and risk danger to others."

The driver's lawyer asked for a pre-sentence report to be prepared, citing the need to consider the driver's personal life and background before sentencing.

Magistrates agreed and adjourned sentencing until September 8, handing the driver an interim driving ban until then.
