One Month After Tragic Loss, Family of Slain New Jersey Therapist Describes Unrelenting Emotional Toll

The family of slain New Jersey therapist Brooke Hanlon is still reeling from the shock of her death one month ago. Hanlon's sister described the experience as "a complete nightmare," with investigators still hunting for a suspect in the affluent community where she lived.

Brooke Hanlon, a 35-year-old new mother, was found fatally stabbed inside her Chester home on June 6. Her sister, Paige Haggerty, spoke exclusively with Fox News Digital, saying that Hanlon was "the sweetest, purest person that I have ever known in my entire life." Haggerty went on to say that her sister had taught her everything she knew, and that she had never lived without her.

The Morris County Prosecutor's Office confirmed that an examination by the Morris County Medical Examiner's Office determined the cause of death to be multiple sharp force injuries and the manner of death as homicide. Brooke and her husband, James "Conor" Hanlon, were married in June 2021 and had just welcomed a new baby in July 2025.

The couple had purchased their home for $535,900 in September 2024. Haggerty said that the baby is currently being cared for by family members and that they still have a "piece of Brooke" with them. Hanlon's murder has rocked the Chester community and devastated her family.

Haggerty described the experience of losing her sister as "unimaginable" and said that she doesn't know how to adjust to life without her. Hanlon was a highly regarded therapist, with her most recent position listed as a psychotherapist for LifeStance in Bernardsville, New Jersey. She had previously worked as a clinician for children and families in the Boston area.

The investigation into Hanlon's death is ongoing, with Morris County Crime Stoppers offering a $1,000 reward for information that could lead to an arrest. Despite the progress made so far, the Hanlon family is still waiting for answers and closure.

The community is coming together to support the Hanlon family, but for now, they are left to deal with the unimaginable loss of a loved one. Hanlon's husband, Conor, was an employee at TriCon Construction Services in Somerville, New Jersey, but the company's CEO has chosen not to comment on the case.
