US Destroys Major Port Surveillance Tower Tracking Drone Activity

On July 16, forces launched precision munitions against a range of Iranian military targets, including a long‑standing surveillance tower in Chah Bahar Shahid Kalantari Port. The tower had been used for decades to track commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz.

The destruction of the tower is expected to reduce the ability of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps to coordinate attacks on civilian crews and to safeguard freedom of navigation in regional waters, except for vessels violating an ongoing naval blockade.

Video released by the military command shows multiple missiles striking the target, confirming the success of the operation.

The strikes began at 2 p.m. and concluded at 9:40 p.m. Eastern Time, lasting nearly eight hours and marking the sixth consecutive night of attacks.

Earlier in the week, forces carried out two separate rounds of strikes aimed at degrading Iran’s capacity to threaten mariners on commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz. The operations targeted coastal surveillance sites, air defense installations, logistics infrastructure, and maritime capabilities.

One of those operations disabled an oil tanker en route to a port on Kharg Island, employing precision munitions to enforce an ongoing naval blockade.

With more than 50,000 service members deployed across the Middle East, the forces remain vigilant, lethal, and ready to respond to emerging threats.
