Apple to Release Public Betas for OS 27 and Other Major Updates This Month

Apple to Release Public Betas for OS 27 and Other Major Updates This Month

July is typically a quiet month in the Apple calendar, with the WWDC conference long over and new hardware releases still a couple of months away. However, this month marks an exciting time for Apple enthusiasts, as the public beta releases for the new operating systems begin.

The public beta of iOS 27, iPadOS 27, watchOS 27, visionOS 27, and macOS 27 will be available for testing in July. This allows users to experience the new features and provide feedback before the official release in the fall. Those interested in participating can prepare their devices for the beta release.

New hardware releases are unlikely in July, as Apple tends to avoid releasing new products during this time. The last time Apple released new hardware in July was in 2019, with an update to the 13-inch MacBook Pro. Recent price increases on certain products, such as the Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini, also suggest that new releases will be held off until the iPhone event in September.

Apple's beta release process typically involves several developer-focused releases before the public beta is made available. The public beta is expected to arrive by mid-July, allowing users to test the new operating systems and provide feedback. It's recommended to avoid installing the beta on primary devices, as it may contain bugs and stability issues.

The new operating systems, referred to by their year of release (in this case, "27"), will be in use and updated primarily in 2027. This unified versioning system makes it easy to track and update devices. While the betas have been remarkably stable so far, users should be aware that battery life may be affected.

Apple TV+ is set to release several new shows and movies in July. Silo (season 3) will continue the saga of a dystopian society, while Trying (season 5) follows Nikki and Jason as they deal with the consequences of their children's biological mother's arrival. Other releases include Lucky, a film about a young woman trying to escape her past, and The Dink, a sports comedy about a washed-up tennis prodigy.

Apple Arcade will also be releasing new games in July, including Creatures of the Deep+, Draw It+, Dungeon Clawler+, and Pocket City 2+. These games will be available on the first Friday of the month, with occasional surprise releases.
