A recent incident at Yellowstone National Park serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining a safe distance from wild animals. A man was lifted approximately eight feet into the air by an agitated bison, highlighting the unpredictable nature of these creatures.
The incident occurred at the Bridge Bay Campground, south of Fishing Bridge, where a man was walking with his grandson when the bison suddenly became aggressive. The man was thrown into the air, and fortunately, he suffered only serious injuries.
According to eyewitnesses, the bison had been running through the campground, causing panic among the occupants, before finding a patch of dirt to wallow in. The victim and his grandson were walking along the road, a safe distance away from the bison, when it suddenly charged at them.
"They weren't even in that camping loop," said one witness. "They were walking along the road, quite a ways away from the bison, and it started running at them." The video of the incident, which is only about a minute long, captures the sudden and terrifying moment when the bison launched the man into the air.
Yellowstone National Park is home to a large population of wild animals, including bison, elk, and bears. Park officials have repeatedly warned visitors to stay far away from these animals, as they are unpredictable and can weigh as much as a car. Despite these warnings, incidents like this continue to occur, emphasizing the need for visitors to exercise extreme caution when interacting with wildlife.
