Lampros' mission began when a friend in cybersecurity alerted him to the issue of online child predators. The friend demonstrated how easy it was to create a fake profile for a 13-year-old girl and connect with men online. Lampros was stunned by the ease with which predators could target children.
He has since coordinated with people across the country who work as decoys posing as children. They converse online, exchange photos, and arrange in-person meetings. Lampros waits outside the meet-up location and places a 911 call to police when the predator arrives. He then films the interaction on Meta glasses.
Lampros credits his MMA training and faith for his ability to stay calm during these encounters. He has completed about 100 "catches" since 2022, with about 10 resulting in convictions. His technique has evolved over time, and he now coaxes alleged predators to discuss details on video that can be turned over to police.
Lampros trains at the MMA Science Academy in Sunrise, Florida, where his coaches and fellow fighters celebrate his successes.
