A fatal stabbing in west London has left a community in shock after a 24-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene and a man taken to hospital with stab wounds.
The incident occurred on Uxbridge Road in Hayes on Sunday morning, and emergency services were called at around 7:55am. A man in his twenties was found outside with stab wounds, and a 44-year-old man was quickly found nearby who matched the description of the suspect. He had injuries believed to be caused after jumping from a window and was taken to hospital.
A mother of two who lives nearby described the scene as "very, very scary" and said her youngest child's bedroom overlooks the area where the incident occurred. She added that her son had reported hearing shouting and someone tapping his bedroom window in the early hours of the morning, but didn't think more of it at the time.
Shop owner Ram Chandra told Metro that it was "carnage" and he saw a man in the road badly injured. He described the police response as "terrible to see" and said there were people crying and police cordoning off the road.
The victim's neighbour described her as a "friendly, smiley young mum" who doted on her newborn baby. She said she couldn't imagine why the attack would have happened and was heartbroken.
A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and possession of a knife in a public place. The air ambulance responded to the scene, and detectives and forensics officers are now scouring the area.
Local MP John McDonnell said the murder was a "terrible tragedy in our community" and offered his sympathy to the family and friends of both victims. Detective Chief Inspector Allam Bhangoo of the Met said that there is not thought to be any wider threat to the public, but locals can expect to see more police in the area over the coming days.
