A nine‑month‑old mixed‑breed male puppy, named Cute as a Button, is awaiting a forever home at the Toronto Humane Society.
The shelter’s staff are known for their creative naming choices, having previously helped devise a list of 17 names for a group of cats. The current name, while unique, reflects the playful spirit the team aims to capture.
Cute as a Button arrived at the shelter in late June as part of a transfer that included 13 dogs from other facilities, some of which were located in regions affected by recent wildfires.
The puppy is part of the Pledge for Paws campaign, which raises funds to bring animals from overcrowded shelters into Toronto.
An upcoming event on August 15 will allow prospective adopters to meet the animals from the campaign. The event will run from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Toronto Humane Society’s River Street location.
Staff describe the puppy as energetic, affectionate, and fun‑loving. He enjoys exploring and playing, and shows strong focus during training sessions.
His favorite activities include playing fetch, running, chasing balls, and receiving treats.
While his interactions with other dogs and small children have not been fully assessed, the team expects him to be sweet and playful, making him a good fit for most families.
Interested parties can begin the adoption process directly through the Toronto Humane Society.
An additional mixed‑breed dog, Lola, aged five, remains available for adoption at the same facility.
