A man has pleaded guilty to murdering his own mother after strangling her in her bedroom. Richard Clayton, 45, admitted to killing 74-year-old Angela Clayton and later calling the police to report himself.
The incident occurred at their home in Newham, east London, on Tuesday, February 17. Clayton had strangled his mother, and officers arrived on scene at 12:48 pm alongside the London Ambulance Service, where they pronounced Mrs. Clayton dead.
Clayton was taken into custody and gave no comment or remained silent during interviews, pretending to be asleep. He was charged with murder the following day.
Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke expressed condolences to Angela's family and friends, stating that their thoughts are with those who have lost a much-loved mother, grandmother, and friend. Yorke also emphasized the commitment to tackling violence against women and girls.
Angela Clayton's family released a statement, saying that everything they have done over the last six months has been for their mother to ensure she received the justice she deserved.
