The national weather service reported that scorching conditions are expected to persist into the coming week, with most areas remaining dry, sunny, and extremely hot.

Forecasts indicate that temperatures in England and Wales will continue to exceed 30°C throughout the weekend and into next week, marking the third heatwave of the year.

Natural England warned that parts of the country face an “exceptional” risk of wildfires, particularly in southern England and the Midlands.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue responded to two moorland wildfires in recent days, while the London Fire Brigade tackled a shrubbery blaze at Stratford Station, leading to temporary rail line closures.

Across the channel, firefighters have been battling one of Spain’s deadliest wildfires in Almería province, which has claimed at least 12 lives, including four British nationals.

The weather service noted that 2026 is the first year to record temperatures of 35°C on six separate days, surpassing previous records set in 1976 and 2020, which each logged five such days.
