Argentina Receive Critical Injury Updates on Trio of Players as Lionel Messi Takes Rest Ahead of England World Cup Match

Argentina's squad is expected to be largely intact for their highly anticipated semi-final encounter with England on Wednesday, despite a grueling quarter-final match against Switzerland.

Only a small section of the team was involved in first-team training on Sunday, with coach Lionel Scaloni taking a careful approach to players' workloads following their marathon meeting in Kansas.

The substitutes who came on in Saturday's quarter-final, as well as those who remained unused, participated in the session, while those who started against Switzerland watched from the sidelines.

Argentina's players will train again at their Kansas City base today before making the trip to Atlanta, where they will hold their first practice on Tuesday.

Argentina's captain and talisman Lionel Messi was left bloodied after a heavy blow to his right eye during the quarter-final match, but reports suggest that any pain he was feeling quickly subsided as the minutes passed.

The eight-time Ballon d'Or winner was given on-field treatment from Argentina's medical staff, but is expected to line up against England on Wednesday.

Tottenham defender Cristian Romero and Boca Juniors midfielder Leandro Paredes both had to be replaced in extra-time against Switzerland, but are reportedly 'without any physical problems.'

Meanwhile, England have fitness concerns of their own to worry about in the lead-up to their meeting with Argentina, with both Declan Rice and Ezri Konsa experiencing physical issues in the side's quarter-final win over Norway.

England manager Thomas Tuchel claimed Rice's withdrawal at half-time was partly tactical, and that the midfielder had spent 'most of the time in bed' in preparation for the match.
