A chaotic incident occurred during a press briefing in Wisconsin when a protester interrupted the event to voice their concerns about the police shooting of a homeless man, Corey Durell Ruiz, aged 38. The incident unfolded on Thursday, as the police addressed the public on the fatal shooting of the victim, which occurred following an altercation involving a bicycle theft investigation. The suspect, Ruiz, fled on a bicycle, leading to a physical encounter with officers at an intersection.
During the altercation, Ruiz pulled out a fixed-blade knife and fatally injured an officer. As the officers attempted to detain Ruiz with a TASER device, another officer received an injury, but it remains unclear if the injury was caused by the knife or the TASER.
The officers promptly provided life-saving attempts at the scene, before transporting Ruiz to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
The incident involved four officers, with all of them placed on administrative leave in accordance with the department's protocol.
