Michael Bouchard, a Bronze Star veteran and Republican congressional candidate, has won the GOP primary in Michigan's 10th Congressional District. This victory comes after receiving a crucial endorsement from President Donald Trump, which is expected to boost his chances in the general election.
The district has been a battleground in recent elections, with incumbent Rep. John James winning by a slim margin in 2024 and a narrow win in 2022. James announced he would vacate the seat to pursue a gubernatorial bid, citing a desire to secure Michigan's prosperity for future generations.
Bouchard is highlighting his military credentials, including his time in the 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions, where he was deployed to Iraq and the U.S. southern border. Like James, Bouchard was awarded a Bronze Star for his service with the joint task force against ISIS.
Bouchard is pitching himself as a strong leader who can right the country's direction, which he claims was derailed by the previous administration. He has highlighted his experience leading missions on the southern border and his commitment to issues such as American manufacturing, the southern border wall, and parental participation in education systems.
Notably, Bouchard has also attracted endorsements from key congressional figures, including U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Majority Whip Tom Emmer, and GOP Conference Chair Lisa McClain. With the Republican primary now behind him, Bouchard will head to the Nov. 3 general election, where he will face off against his Democratic opponent.
