Father shoots alleged rapist who posed as daughter online

A father in Grove City, Ohio, shot a man he accused of sexually assaulting his 11‑year‑old daughter after discovering video evidence of the abuse.

According to court filings, the father impersonated his daughter on a social‑media platform to lure the suspect back to his home, where he fired two shots. He claimed he intended only to confront the man but fired when he believed the suspect reached for a weapon. The father has been charged with felonious assault, and his bond was set at $100,000.

Investigators reported that the suspect’s phone contained multiple videos depicting sexual abuse of children, including one involving an infant or toddler.

The suspect, identified as Diego Montoya Gonzalez, was arraigned on charges of rape, pandering sexually oriented material involving a minor, and obstruction of official business. He entered a plea of not guilty on all counts. A judge set his bond at $70,000, comprising a $20,000 recognizance amount and a $50,000 cash or surety component.

If released, the suspect is prohibited from contacting the victim’s family and may access the internet only for work‑related purposes. Enforcement of these conditions will be monitored by authorities.
