Dana White hints at 2028 plans while praising a Trump cabinet secretary

Dana White, a prominent political figure whose support played a critical role in the 2024 presidential election, has suggested he may re-enter the political arena by 2028. He cited growing personal ties to Secretary of State Marco Rubio as a potential catalyst for a return to public service.

This speculation arose alongside the announcement of a landmark collaboration between the UFC and the U.S. State Department. The two entities formalized a partnership through a memorandum of understanding, marking the first time the UFC has engaged in such an initiative. Under the agreement, UFC athletes and coaches will serve as “sports ambassadors” for youth programs globally via the State Department’s Sports Envoy Program.

When asked about potential political leaders for 2028, White acknowledged his close relationship with Rubio, describing him as “a great guy” with “intelligence and poise.” He also praised Vice President JD Vance, noting both men represent “strong candidates” for future leadership. However, White emphasized he is not endorsing either figure, stating, “I don’t know enough about politics to comment further.”

Rubio and Vance are widely viewed as leading contenders to succeed the current administration. While Rubio previously ran for president in 2016, he has publicly supported Vance, calling him a “close friend” and “potential nominee.” White’s remarks suggest a strategic alignment with both figures, though he has not formally committed to political participation.

The UFC’s partnership with the State Department underscores a broader push to leverage sports as a diplomatic tool. The collaboration aims to “build bridges through community engagement,” according to White, who highlighted the UFC’s global reach—athletes representing 75 countries—as a key asset for the initiative.

Rubio praised the UFC for embodying values like “excellence, discipline, opportunity, and meritocracy,” calling the partnership a step toward expanding the global influence of mixed martial arts. The deal places the UFC alongside the NFL as the only major U.S. sports organizations to establish formal agreements with the State Department under this program.

White’s political involvement has evolved since his high-profile role in recent elections. While he has not ruled out future participation, he stressed the importance of maintaining neutrality, stating, “Never say never.” The UFC’s new diplomatic efforts, however, signal an ongoing effort to position the sport as a platform for international engagement.
