ICE Asks Michigan to Detain Haitian Undocumented Immigrant Released into U.S. by Federal Authorities After Arrest for Violent Stabbing of Coworker at Michigan Meat Processing Plant

On June 30 in Coldwater, Michigan, a fatal workplace altercation occurred at a meat processing facility. Valmir Djempsley, an undocumented individual from Haiti, is accused of stabbing 21-year-old Brandon Eduardo Velasquez Chavez during an argument. Witnesses reported that Djempsley allegedly pursued Chavez with a knife before delivering the fatal blow. Medical personnel arrived but were unable to save Chavez, who died at the scene.

According to officials, the knives used at the facility are assigned to employees via a numbered system. Conflicts over these tools have previously led to disputes, with this incident marking a tragic escalation. Police confirmed that Djempsley admitted to swinging the weapon during the confrontation. The suspect is currently in custody, with authorities working to determine the full circumstances of the attack.
