A detainer has been lodged by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) with Texas authorities, requesting that they notify the agency before releasing an El Salvadoran national who is accused of murder in two fatal shootings.
The suspect, 18-year-old Jefferson Adonay Velasquez-Torres, was charged this week with murder for an April 27 shooting outside a Houston nightclub that resulted in the death of 27-year-old Noah Ramirez. Two others were injured in the shooting.
Velasquez-Torres was previously charged in June with murder for his alleged involvement in a shooting at a Houston house party last August that left 17-year-old Angel Garcia dead. A second suspect, 19-year-old Enrique Aguilar, was also arrested in connection with Garcia's death.
The 18-year-old entered the U.S. illegally as a minor in 2014 and was released into the country. He now faces charges of unlawfully carrying a weapon and aggravated robbery in addition to the two counts of murder.
ICE officials have asked Texas authorities to notify the agency before releasing Velasquez-Torres from jail, citing public safety concerns. He remains held in the Harry County Jail after being denied bond for charges related to the second shooting.
