Maharliika Investment Corp. (MIC) is exploring a role as a vehicle for pooling investments to support the Philippines' participation in a global technology supply chain initiative. The company does not plan to deploy its own capital.
MIC's president and CEO has said the firm is in talks with the Bases Conversion and Development Authority about its potential involvement. The dialogue focuses on how the initiative will attract foreign investors to build an ecosystem.
MIC could serve as a collective vehicle to aggregate investments for projects under the initiative. Its own capital is not expected to be used.
The initiative requires a multi‑agency, whole‑government approach, with foreign direct investment expected to provide the bulk of required capital. MIC is ready to support this effort as a vehicle.
The Philippines joined the initiative in April and plans to develop a 1,618‑hectare artificial‑intelligence‑native industrial hub in New Clark City, Tarlac, as part of its bid to enter the global AI supply chain.
MIC will not invest directly in AI companies or AI‑related stocks, citing limited expertise and capital to identify opportunities in the rapidly evolving sector.
Instead, MIC expects its portfolio companies to adopt AI to enhance operational efficiency and profitability.
AI investment opportunities span industries from power generation and semiconductor manufacturing to end‑user applications, making it difficult for MIC to select direct investment targets.
MIC will employ AI internally to improve its own operations and profitability.
