OceanaGold has allocated P768.43 million for the final rehabilitation and decommissioning of its Didipio gold and copper mine in Kasibu, Nueva Vizcaya, in preparation for the mine’s planned closure in 2037.
As of 2026, P551.4 million has already been deposited into the mine rehabilitation trust fund. The fund will continue to grow in line with the required annual provisioning schedule while the mine remains operational.
The mine’s actual operating footprint covers roughly 340 hectares within its 975‑hectare approved permit area. Of this, 100 hectares have been earmarked for progressive rehabilitation during ongoing operations.
By the end of 2025, more than 55 hectares had been rehabilitated. Remaining areas will be restored in phases throughout the mine’s remaining life.
Following the mine’s closure, about 221 hectares are slated for final rehabilitation. An additional 58 hectares—including the open pit and selected camp facilities—have been identified for potential post‑mining community uses instead of conventional revegetation.
Planned post‑mining uses include agriculture, forestry, the creation of a freshwater lake, and an enterprise tourism development area.
These proposals stem from consultations with host communities and are subject to technical assessments to ensure safety, suitability, and sustainability.
The final mine rehabilitation and decommissioning plan is reviewed and updated every two years to reflect rehabilitation progress, mine plan updates, new technical information, stakeholder inputs, and government requirements. The next review is scheduled for the third quarter of 2026.
The company’s president and general manager for external affairs and social performance emphasized that ongoing operations will continue to fund rehabilitation and closure planning, aiming to secure positive and sustainable outcomes for the environment and host communities well into the future.
