A series of violent crashes and subsequent fires have caused widespread destruction on a highway connecting Guadalajara and Tepic, with multiple vehicles engulfed in flames and sending plumes of black smoke into the air.
The crashes occurred when a tractor-trailer suffered a brake failure and collided with a line of vehicles that had stopped due to an earlier accident. The initial incident involved a rear-end collision between two tractor-trailers, prompting emergency crews to respond to the scene.
However, before responders could arrive, a third tractor-trailer crashed into the scene, exacerbating the situation. The impact caused a massive fire that destroyed three private vehicles and two tractor-trailer trucks.
In addition to the destroyed vehicles, two other private vehicles and an official Dodge Charger unit belonging to the National Guard sustained material damage. Firefighters eventually extinguished the blaze, bringing an end to the chaos.
The driver of the tractor-trailer involved in the second crash was detained by the National Guard. Authorities have not released further details on the incident, including the number of casualties or the extent of the damage.
