Todd Blanche Advances Toward Confirmation Following $1.8 Billion

The acting Attorney General Todd Blanche has moved closer to Senate confirmation following a significant concession that has alleviated concerns over a contentious $1.8 billion "anti-weaponization fund" included in the President's IRS settlement.

Blanche formally rescinded the controversial fund and narrowed tax protections in the settlement after holding good faith discussions with Senate members, including Sen. John Cornyn and Sen. Thom Tillis.

The agreement reached Sunday comes after Cornyn and Tillis had been holding up Blanche's nomination in the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The Senate Judiciary Committee is scheduled to vote on Blanche's nomination on Tuesday, following which his confirmation will likely move forward.

Blanche expressed his appreciation for the productive engagement with Senate members, stating that his team had addressed any concerns or outstanding questions over the past several weeks.

In a statement, Blanche clarified that the tax-related protections in the settlement apply only retroactively, not to future filings, as part of the updated order.

This development is a significant step forward in Blanche's confirmation process, which had been stalled due to the concerns over the contentious fund.
