Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville has sparked controversy with his recent comments on Fox News, stating that he would leave the Democratic Party if Communist influencer Hasan Piker becomes a force within the party.
Carville's comments come after a tumultuous period for the Democratic strategist, who last month blasted the Democratic Socialists of America, calling their candidates "so f*cking stupid" and "f*cking idiots." He told Fox News host Jaqui Heinrich on Sunday that he has no intention of being in the same party as Piker, stating, "If he becomes a force in the Democratic Party, I'm out of here. I have no intention of ever being in the same political party with that guy."
Carville also took aim at the Democratic Socialists of America's radical platform, claiming that the "overwhelming majority of Democrats agree" that they are too far left. However, it appears that Piker's influence within the party may be growing, as he headlined the 2026 College Democrats of America summer convention alongside top Democratic officials and socialist congressional candidates.
A new poll also suggests that a significant portion of Democratic voters are embracing the Democratic Socialists' platform, with 34% identifying as Democratic Socialists. This shift in the party's ideology may be causing tension within the Democratic ranks, with Carville warning that the two-party system may be under "tremendous stress" in the coming months.
In a bold statement, Carville declared, "But the one thing I can tell you for certain, Hassan Piker and James Carville are not going to be in the same political party. One of us is going to leave. It might even be me."
