Donald Trump presented World Cup medals to players from Argentina and Spain during the trophy ceremony.
Argentina defender Cristian Romero shook hands with FIFA president Gianni Infantino to receive his medal but walked past Trump without acknowledgment.
Romero instead greeted Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni was visibly emotional during his post-match press conference following his team's defeat to Spain.
"I feel the need to think because I don't know if I'm going to be able to do something as big as this," Scaloni said when asked about his future with the national team.
Scaloni described his role as "everyone's dream place" and said the coaching staff and players gave everything until the final moment.
"I never imagined I'd be here. To move forward, a lot of things are needed. Above all, we need to reset, to form a group like this, which is unlikely to ever be formed again. It breaks my heart," he said.
Lionel Messi was also in tears as Spain celebrated with the trophy, in what is expected to be his final World Cup appearance for Argentina.
Scaloni praised the 39-year-old forward, calling him "the best football player ever to set foot on a pitch."
"It was always crystal clear to me that he would play until he chose to stop and that everyone would support him," Scaloni said.
