A 28-year-old Vaughan man has been charged with first-degree murder following the fatal stabbing of a 29-year-old Toronto woman in a North York high-rise on Saturday afternoon.
Officers responded to a call about a person with a knife at a residential building near Don Mills Road and Fairview Mall Drive just after 2:30 p.m.
The victim, identified as Thi Nguyen, was found with stab wounds in a hallway inside the building. Life-saving measures were attempted, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect had fled before police arrived. Martin Ly was arrested the following day and charged with first-degree murder and failure to comply with an undertaking.
The homicide marks Toronto's 21st of the year.
In Hamilton, a Flamboro Speedway employee died following a crash during a track event on Saturday night.
Police were called to the speedway at 9:15 p.m. after an employee was injured in an accident on the track. The individual was taken to hospital and later died from their injuries.
The speedway was hosting a Christmas in July event when two cars were racing and one went airborne, striking a staff member in the starter stand. The deceased was a man in his late 60s and a long-time employee.
The Ministry of Labour has assumed responsibility for the investigation.
In Niagara Falls, police have identified two suspects in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred last Thursday evening.
Officers responded to a residence on Thorold Stone Road near Dorchester Road at about 8:50 p.m. after a man was shot. The victim, 35-year-old Mitchell Snoddon, was transported to hospital and died shortly after.
Investigators determined two suspects arrived at the home and fired a handgun. They have been identified as 23-year-old Maaroof Bangi and 30-year-old Josta Grace MacNeal, both wanted for second-degree murder.
Police believe the pair may be travelling in a black 2021 Mazda CX5 with Ontario licence plate DDEC744. A white Nissan Rogue was previously identified as a suspect vehicle.
Toronto Police are also investigating a downtown incident involving gunfire that caused minor injuries early Saturday morning.
Officers were called to the Adelaide Street West and John Street area at 3:43 a.m. after initial reports of an explosion. Evidence of a firearm discharge and damage to a residential window were found on scene.
No suspect information has been released, and the number of injured individuals has not been disclosed.
