Isabelle Rose Welsh, a toddler from Thornaby in Teesside, died in September under circumstances that have led to a murder trial.
Alexandra Simpson and Harrison Simpson are facing charges at Teesside Crown Court for the child’s death.
The presiding judge thanked the jury for handling what was described as a difficult case and indicated that sentencing will be delivered on Thursday morning.
During the trial, jurors were informed that the child's body bore extensive bruising, including injuries to the head, neck, abdomen, back, genital area and buttocks.
The prosecution argued that Isabelle’s death was not caused by natural illness but resulted from a severe head injury that fractured her skull, damaged her brain and caused her heart to stop.
According to testimony, the couple began dating only three months before the incident, and one of them became a frequent visitor to the victim’s home, spending considerable time with the child.
The prosecution described the relationship as unhealthy, marked by alcohol and drug use, which allegedly led to a deterioration in the child’s care and exposed her to ongoing violence at home.
The trial continues as the court examines evidence of the alleged abuse and the circumstances surrounding Isabelle’s tragic death.
