The incident occurred on July 3 at the Point Pleasant Beach boardwalk in New Jersey, where a 33-year-old woman, identified by authorities, allegedly assaulted a teenage girl over her patriotic-colored sweatpants featuring the words "Trump" and "ICE".
The victim and her friends were walking on the boardwalk when the woman, who lives in Allenhurst, began yelling at them repeatedly over their clothing. The woman verbally berated the teenagers and continued to approach, harass, and yell at them, according to the victim's statement to police.
The woman then struck the victim twice, once on her body and once in the face, before walking off. Authorities were able to identify the woman through surveillance camera footage and her social media posts, as well as her passport information provided to federal customs and border protection officers.
The woman has been charged with simple assault, endangering the welfare of a child, harassment, and obstruction. She turned herself in on July 13 and was taken into custody without incident at police headquarters.
Jail records show that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has filed a detainer in the case. The husband of the woman posted a video on social media, seemingly distraught, and claimed he needed help to save her, but failed to mention the reason for her arrest.
The incident has sparked concerns about the behavior of some individuals who may be experiencing Trump Derangement Syndrome, a phenomenon characterized by extreme anger and hostility towards the president.
