Representative Anna Paulina Luna has called on House Speaker Mike Johnson to attach the SAVE America Act to all appropriation bills and must-pass legislation in the House of Representatives.
Luna is advocating for the use of the MIRV process, a military tactic that involves passing individual provisions of a bill before combining them into a single legislative vehicle without a final vote.
Under the MIRV process, each provision is voted on individually, allowing different coalitions of votes to pass the legislation. The final vote is essentially a vote on the rule governing the process.
Luna has also challenged Majority Leader John Thune to resist stripping the SAVE Act from legislation when it reaches the Senate. If Thune removes the act, it would indicate opposition to voter ID and election integrity.
Thune has faced criticism over his failure to advance the SAVE America Act, which has been supported by over 80% of Americans. Luna has stated that if Thune removes the act, he should face consequences, including potential censure from his state party or a primary challenge from within his own party.
Luna has emphasized that her party will try the MIRV process on the condition that Speaker Johnson attaches the SAVE America Act to all must-pass bills and sends it to the Senate as a single bill. If Thune strips it out, it will be on him, she stated.
