Argentina’s president Javier Milei confirmed he will not travel to New Jersey for the World Cup final, opting instead to follow the match from his residence in Olivos.
Milei explained that his absence is tied to a personal superstition involving a specific jacket he wore during Argentina’s quarter‑final victory over Switzerland.
The oil‑company‑branded jacket, he said, keeps him cool in cold weather; he removed it during the Switzerland game and the team conceded a goal, after which he kept it on for the remainder of the tournament.

The final between Spain and Argentina is set for 8 p.m. BST on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez will travel to the United States for the match, accompanied by members of the Spanish royal family who will watch from a VIP box.
U.S. President Donald Trump is also expected to attend and will join the FIFA president in presenting the trophy to the winners, following the traditional role of the host‑nation leader.

Although Trump has avoided attending earlier tournament matches, he has been outspoken on World Cup issues, including a phone call with the FIFA president about a red‑card decision and commentary on England’s tactical approach.
In a recent press event, Trump praised England striker Harry Kane and questioned the defensive role assigned to him, noting his limited knowledge of soccer.
England manager Thomas Tuchel responded to Trump’s remarks after England secured the bronze medal, defending his tactical choices and accepting responsibility for the outcome.

Defending champions Argentina will seek to retain the title against a Spanish side that reached the final by overcoming England in the semi‑final.
