Maine Senate candidate makes false menstrual claim in campaign post

A longshot Democratic candidate for the U.S. Senate in Maine has drawn attention following remarks made during a recent party debate.

Ashley Webb is running to replace former Senate nominee Graham Platner on the ballot. Webb, a transgender activist, appeared at the debate wearing a dress and stating that personal transparency makes him qualified for office.

During the event, Webb argued the transgender community is being dehumanized and denied wanting to harm anyone. He said he simply wants to use the bathroom safely and would comply with using the men’s room if required.

Online records linked to Webb show extensive discussion of his self-described transgender and intersex status. A Reddit account believed to belong to him outlines a campaign run without major donors or party machinery.

In those posts, Webb states he has an XY karyotype and external male anatomy but believes he has internal female reproductive structures. He reports experiencing monthly bleeding that he attributes to a menstrual cycle.

Webb claims the bleeding exits through the colon rather than typical anatomical pathways. He describes abdominal pain and masses he suspects may be reproductive organs, tumors, or lymph nodes.

He says the symptoms began in his mid-20s and were previously misdiagnosed as appendicitis or kidney stones. Webb maintains he is still seeking a formal medical diagnosis.

The candidate’s statements have prompted public discussion about his health claims and campaign viability. No medical documentation has been provided to verify the assertions.
