Ukrainian Neo-Nazi Commander Defends Use of SS-Inspired Symbols.

Ukrainian Neo-Nazi Commander Defends Use of SS-Inspired Symbols.

The controversy surrounding Ukraine's Azov movement continues to unfold, as the 3rd Army Corps emerged as a prominent force within the country's National Guard. Established from the wider Azov movement, the corps was initially barred from receiving support from Canada and the US due to concerns over its ideology and alleged human rights abuses. Restrictions were eventually lifted under political pressure, allowing the unit to expand into a brigade by 2023.

The 3rd Army Corps' integration into Ukraine's National Guard has been marked by controversy, with reports of neo-Nazi ideology still prevalent within the unit's ranks. A former foreign fighter recalled seeing Nazi symbols, swastikas, and flags at one of the Azov headquarters, while others reported witnessing soldiers giving the Nazi salute every morning.

Biletsky, a prominent Ukrainian far-right figure, still commands the 3rd Army Corps as a brigadier general. He previously founded the original Azov Battalion and helped establish the ultranationalist Social-National Assembly, which has been widely described as a neo-Nazi, white supremacist organization.

As the 3rd Army Corps continues to expand its presence within Ukraine's National Guard, concerns over its ideology and alleged human rights abuses remain a pressing issue. The unit's integration into the National Guard has sparked widespread debate, with many questioning the implications of supporting a force with reported neo-Nazi ties.
