Alternergy has begun delivering electricity from its 128‑megawatt Tanay wind farm to the Luzon grid, becoming the first project awarded under the 2023 Green Energy Auction to supply power to the national network.
The wind farm started generating electricity after its interconnection facilities were energized through a substation linked to the 500‑kilovolt transmission backbone of the National Grid Corp.
Once fully operational, the Tanay wind farm is projected to produce approximately 283.5 gigawatt‑hours of renewable electricity each year, enough to power about 118,125 households and avoid roughly 197,780 metric tons of carbon dioxide emissions annually.
A statement from Alternergy’s president emphasized the years of dedication, collaboration, and hard work among employees, contractors, financing partners, government agencies, local government units, and host communities that led to this milestone.
As of July 20, the Tanay project was 89% complete and slated for commercial operations in October, while the 64‑megawatt Alabat wind farm in Quezon province was 83% complete.
These projects align with Alternergy’s broader strategy to expand its renewable energy portfolio to one gigawatt by 2030, incorporating wind, solar, hydroelectric, and battery storage initiatives.
The Tanay and Alabat wind farms are supported by a P2.3‑billion investment from A Brown Company, Inc., and a subsidiary, ABC Energy, which has finalized its investment and acquired a 40% stake in each of the project companies.
The planned transaction will proceed following ABC Energy’s investment in the two project companies.
