Police are searching for a man who was seen wearing a lobster costume after assaulting a spectator at a major sporting event. The victim was treated for serious but non‑life‑threatening injuries and remains hospitalized.

A CCTV image of the suspect was released on Monday, with investigators hoping that it will prompt witnesses to come forward. The footage was captured outside the venue during the third day of the 2026 World Darts Championship.

Detective Constable Lizzie Coster, heading the investigation, said the assault occurred outside the event and that the suspect was wearing a distinctive costume. She added that the image may help identify the individual.

The force has called on anyone who was present at the time to review the footage and report any information that could aid the case.

The police have expressed concern for the victim’s recovery, noting that he is still suffering from the injuries sustained during the incident.

The 2026 World Darts Championship, held from December 2025 to January 2026, saw two‑time champion Gary Anderson defeat Adam Hunt 3‑2 in the first round. Fans frequently attend professional games in elaborate costumes, a tradition that began as a playful way to attract attention from television cameras.

The championship concluded on January 3, with Luke Littler securing his second consecutive title by beating Gian van Veen 7‑1 in the final.
