The Baguio City Regional Trial Court has sentenced two individuals to life imprisonment for their involvement in a marijuana sting in 2023.
According to court records, the defendants were convicted of violating the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, a law that prohibits the sale and distribution of illicit substances.
The case against the defendants began in 2023, when authorities seized 57 kilos of dried marijuana during a joint operation by the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and local police.
The court's decision was seen as a significant win for law enforcement, who credited the conviction to close coordination between different agencies involved in the operation.
The defendants also face a P500,000 fine in addition to their life imprisonment sentences.
The conviction highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the sale and distribution of illicit substances in the region.
