A heavily armed individual was apprehended on Sunday near Trump National Golf Course in Los Angeles ahead of a planned visit by the President. The suspect was found carrying firearms and ammunition, including hollow point bullets, while monitoring the President's security preparations.
The President arrived in Southern California on Tuesday for a Republican National Committee event. Authorities have since identified the suspect as Jeanine John Taele, 38, who was arrested at Trump National Golf Course.
According to authorities, Taele was observed walking around the golf course, taking photos and monitoring the security plans. He was detained by deputies who were responding to a report of a suspicious individual on the property.
During the detention, deputies recovered a 16-round magazine containing hollow point ammunition from Taele's pants pocket. A search of his vehicle yielded a loaded pistol with a round chambered, as well as an additional loaded magazine containing hollow point ammunition.
Taele was arrested for carrying a concealed firearm and Possession of Armor-Piercing/Prohibited Ammunition. A search of his home and vehicle uncovered a range of items, including an illegally modified AR-style rifle, a 1911 .45 caliber pistol, an AR platform upper receiver, body armor, high-capacity magazines, bulk pistol and rifle ammunition, multiple notebooks containing concerning statements, and two radio signal devices.
The investigation is ongoing, with the FBI reviewing the evidence and providing further information as possible. This incident highlights the importance of security measures in place for high-profile events.
As the investigation continues, authorities are working to determine the motive behind Taele's actions and whether he posed a credible threat to the President's safety.
A spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department has confirmed that the suspect's vehicle was located in a parking lot on the golf course, and that deputies detained Taele after observing him taking photographs and videos of the security-planning activities.
