U.S. Central Command launched a new wave of strikes against Iranian military sites on July 12, marking the fourth series of attacks since the cease‑fire collapsed last week.
The operations began at 5 p.m. Eastern Time and targeted roughly 140 Iranian positions, including missile and drone installations, naval facilities, ammunition depots, communications networks, and coastal surveillance sites.
The strikes follow Iran’s recent assaults on commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz and on neighboring Gulf states, which prompted the United States to respond with force.
Iran’s state news agency reported that projectiles were fired at military targets on Qeshm Island, near the strait, but said there were no casualties. Explosions were also heard in the coastal city of Bandar Abbas and inland in Hajiabad.
Qeshm Island, the largest in the Persian Gulf, is home to about 150,000 residents, underscoring the potential for civilian impact amid the escalating conflict.
The latest attacks come as both sides approach the midpoint of a 60‑day interim agreement intended to pave the way for a permanent resolution to the hostilities.
U.S. officials stated the goal of the strikes is to degrade Iran’s capacity to threaten civilian mariners and commercial vessels transiting the Strait of Hormuz, and to hold Iranian forces accountable for recent aggression.
